SKVH Suggested Canine Elective Surgery Schedule

 

Spay (female)

6 months, price varies by weight

Neuter (male)  under 50#

Small breed dogs, expected weight fewer than 50 pounds can be neutered as soon as 4 months, or any time after.

Neuter (male)  over 50#

Large breed dogs, expected weight more than 50 pounds should be neutered after 12-14 months unless behavioral issues present. 

Declaw and Tail docking

Done at 1 to 3 days after birth.

 

  • *Spay – if done after 6 months of age dog may go into heat.
    • Some dogs will go into heat as early as 6 months.
    • A heat cycle lasts approximately 3 weeks and you need to wait at least 4 weeks after the cycle is complete to spay.
    • If dog is actively in heat - price will increase.
  • Neuter on large breed dogs is done at or after 12 – 14 months of age to allow for bone and growth plate development.
  • Neuter on large breed dogs may be done prior to 12 – 14 months if behavioral issues arise or at the recommendation of your Veterinarian.

Spay (female)

Done as early as 3 months of age or 3 pounds.  Overnight stay required

Neuter (male) 

Done as early as 3 months of age or 3 pounds.  Overnight stay required

 

 

Declaw and Tail docking

Can be done as early as 12 – 16 weeks.  Will need paper litter for 2 weeks after surgery.  Cat must stay 2 nights for observation
